CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Quentin Beck
Assigned Nickname The Deceiver
Age: Originally 39, now 41 with CRAU
Canon: MCU Spider-Man: Far From Home
Canon point: The final bridge fight in Spider-Man: Far From Home after being shot.
Character Information: Right over here.
CRAU: He got pulled into Ryslig, and spent over two years there in which he was a faerie and pushed to his absolute emotional limits. He could no longer operate solely on anger and spite. He stuck to his spite initially and set out to ruin Peter Parker’s life, allying with the Green Goblin in the process to do so. However, he wanted the kid to suffer rather than die, and had Big Regrets realizing that the Goblin intended to kill him. He took a hit for the kid, and upon resurrection nearly died again via drowning. It was a massive blow to his ego and self-esteem, and the cocky façade he kept up finally cracked on rock-bottom.

At his most vulnerable, though, connections he’d previously made with Tawna Bandicoot and Chiaki Nanami were shown to be genuinely based on their care for him and they just. Helped him and were concerned for him, no strings attached. Just genuine friendship. It led him to reframe his interactions with them, as well as cemented them as people he’d do anything for, few questions asked. He also met Steven Grant who became a close friend around this time, as well as eventually his husband as they suffered through the trials and tribulations of Monster Hell. Tawna, Chiaki, and Steven treated him as a person, and he was allowed to just… breath as he got his feet back under him. Clinging to his old life only resulted in his second (first CRAU) death, so he has to shed that shit or die. He’s sick of dying, he finally wants to live.

He reached out to Peter and they came to an understanding about what had happened, as well as Beck admitting he dun fucked up. He also became protective of the teenager, because that is HIS spider to bully, no one else is allowed! Only HE can give Peter shit!

Tawna’s eventual disappearance led to him clinging desperately to Steven, and deepening their friendship into a genuine relationship.

Through his time at Ryslig, he met people who made him want to actively be a better person, as well as was forced to confront what he’d done as Mysterio by somebody he cared for (Steven Grant). Being forced to analyze his past actions as well as carve out a life for himself without being able to use what he previously considering integral to himself (lying, manipulation, super advanced tech, an in-depth understanding of said tech) meant he had to start at the bottom and claw his way back up. Also having the Winter Soldier kick his ass into shape helped.

Also he believes Steven Grant, aka Moon Knight, is 1000% emotionally stronger than any of the Avengers are. If he had to choose which were his backup, he’d pick Steven every time because he has never failed to have his actions match his words. That’s his field of REEDS, baby! Kiss kiss fall in love, have you seen their cakehound? Crumpet is a good boy.

CRAU Changes/powers: He is not keeping any of his faerie attributes or powers, he’s getting bounced back to fully-human. However, he did previously have four arms, a set of wings, and antennae which affected how he held himself as well as his movement. There was also increased physical durability, enhanced strength, and an inability to lie. He will be compensating for limbs he no longer has, essentially, as well as struggling with returning to baseline-human standards of strength.
Personality: You may pick five of our questions below to answer as your personality section of the application. Keep the word count to 100-300 per question, please!

What would make the character happiest? What is their ultimate goal?
Previously, his ultimate goal was to become a world-renown hero with all of the fame and glory he felt was owed to him, even if he had to mastermind the growth of his heroics personally. The sacrifice of other people didn’t matter at all as long as he got what he wanted. Since his experiences in Ryslig though, he’s scaled back his ultimate goal to something more realistic and actually satisfying: He wants a life for himself that is one he genuinely wants to lead, and hopefully share with somebody else. No bullshit, no lies or farces, he wants to live his life and enjoy it, with the same for those he cares for.

To hell with fortune and fame, or even notoriety. His greatest desire is to be Steven Grant’s partner in both this life and the next. As long as he has some time for his creative pursuits as well, he’s delighted. Quentin has a new lease on life, and he’ll be taking it with both hands.

If your character was trapped in a small room with another character with no way out, how would they cope? What would they do?
Due to CRAU experiences, he’d just sigh deeply and be resigned to the fact he’s trapped. He’ll still make a cursory attempt at escape, as well as asking the other person if there’s anything helpful they know. Consolidate info, pick at what he physically can, and try to resist the urge to scrabble and tear at the walls and any crevice with his fingernails until they bleed. He needs to stay in control of himself, keep his head on, and if worst comes to worst? He’s had four arms before, and been reduced to three. He’s not gonna worry about having to lose an arm if it means they can sustain themselves and maybe, just maybe, have the energy to jump whoever locked them in here when they go “Oh shit, that guy’s taking his own arm off, what the FUCK-“ and rush in. His limbs will come back, it’s totally fine to risk some of ‘em on a gamble like this! (It is not fine, he does not get the reset button he once had in regards to harrowing injuries.)

Who is the most important person in your character's life? How has that person impacted them?
Tony Stark. Beck’s focus on fame and recognition stems from the media focus on superheroes in-universe, as well as the way Tony’s become memorialized since the Snap was reversed, and who’s the most known hero? Iron Man, the playboy billionaire philanthropist. Tony is THE big-brained science guy every tech nerd wants to be, and Beck definitely fit that mold at some point before the respect soured into jealousy instead. Beck even cultivates his Mysterio persona to physically match Tony’s appearance, as well as becoming a mentor figure to Spider-Man because that’s what Tony did. It is also control of the EDITH glasses, as built by Tony Stark, that provides the main plot of Far From Home, so without Tony Stark? Beck would not have had the same kind of bedrock to work from when it came to gathering his team as well as forming his plans. Even without Tony Stark, Beck would have been some degree of asshole with a baseline of selfishness, but this was the catalyst for being an asshole on a WORLD level.

If your character were to take on a typical horror movie role, what role would they take? First victim, cynical hunter, last one standing? Or would they be the horror itself?
Pre-Ryslig, he would have been the horror itself. I’m thinking specifically of someone like Jigsaw from the Saw movies where it’s very intricate plans, grand set pieces, supposed philosophical reasoning, but in reality his reasoning is flawed as hell and self-serving for his own righteousness. If anything, he would be Mark Hoffman from the Saw franchise: drunk on power and using the traps/morality of Jigsaw to paint himself as superior when, in actuality? He’s a hack who rigs it all from the start so he always wins. Beck being a human killer would be very critical to his nature of a petty, angry man guided by his own whims rather than some outside force or supernatural means.

After Ryslig, I’d cast him as more of a supporting character who has experienced the horrors before and has forever been changed by them, emotionally and/or physically. The hunter who knows something is in the woods, but is too intimidated to tackle it solo after he failed the first time, or the scarred watcher/red herring who is possibly responsible, but ends up dying as a bait-and-switch. Beck doesn’t have all of the cards or knowledge anymore, will freely admit that, but he’ll still try to provide what assistance he can to the survivor before dying. The most important thing is he at least tried to face down the horrors, instead of ignoring its existence or becoming the horror in question. It is a choice to help, to fight, and he’s learned to make it.

Choose five horror-themed songs to create a playlist for your character, and detail why each song resonates with them.
Look What You Made Me Do, Taylor Swift. “Maybe I got mine/but you’ll all get yours.” Beck’s motivations as Mysterio being those of spite, constantly shifting blame to others, and casting it as something he was forced to do rather than owning up as an intentional plan he made.

What Do They Know, Mindless Self Indulgence. “Beat me up, beat me down […] For what it’s worth, I’d do it again.” Beck clings to what he knows even to his own detriment, up to and including his own death (in both canon and CRAU). Old grudges, past patterns of behavior, if it previously worked then he’s sticking to it even as he bleeds.

Dinner Is Not Over, Jack Stauber’s Micropop. “I’ve tasted friendship/I’ve tasted you (oh no!)/I’ve tasted dying and it tasted good!” Cheeky way to reference the cannibalism of Ryslig CRAU as well as how he mentally eats himself in the aftermath of his first death there. Everyone wants something, but people are just… helping him after he died? Weird.

Terrifyer, AJJ. “Then it got personal/I saw my rage/I just wanted to rage/but all I got was tired.” Beck’s finally embraced that he can be more than his anger and what’s shaped him, but he also has to actively come to terms with it. He’s still angry, but nowadays it’s a focused anger geared towards protecting him and his rather than lashing out wildly.

The Hand That Feeds, Nine Inch Nails. “I keep holding on to what I want to believe/ I can see/ But I keep holding on and on and on and on.” Just because Beck’s adjusted to Ryslig doesn’t mean he’s passive. Realistically he knows there’s no escape, but he’s going to claw at the walls and believe that hope is possible/worthwhile instead of a waste.

Roommates?: One, please!

Triggers/sensitive topics you'd like to avoid?: Overly descriptive eye gore, as well as overly-descriptive teeth horror.
